Mini projectors under $100 are everywhere, but most of them are 720p. The Magcubic HY310X is one of the cheaper options that lists a native 1080p resolution. It sells for $99.72 (listed regular price $175.27) on Magcubic’s official store, where it ranks among the brand’s best-selling projectors, and adds auto focus, a 180° rotating stand and a 40–130 inch picture.

For this Magcubic HY310X review, we went through the full specification sheet, the product images and feature claims, and Magcubic’s shipping, return and warranty policies, and compared the numbers across them. The goal is to show what you get for under $100, where it fits, and which listing claims are worth double-checking.

Magcubic HY310X Review: Picture and Brightness

The HY310X’s headline feature is native 1080p at this price. Many similar mini projectors, including Magcubic’s own HY300 series, run at 720p and only “support” 1080p input. A native 1080p panel gives noticeably sharper text and detail on a large screen.

Magcubic rates it at 420 ANSI lumens. That’s enough for a dark bedroom or a dim living room, but like most LCD mini projectors it will look washed out in a bright room. The 1500:1 contrast ratio is typical for this class: blacks will look gray rather than deep. Budget projector brightness figures are hard to verify, so treat 420 ANSI as a best case and plan to watch with the lights off.

Setup: Auto Focus, Keystone and the 180° Stand

The HY310X sits on a built-in stand that rotates 180°, so you can aim it at a wall or straight up at the ceiling for watching in bed. Auto focus sharpens the image automatically, and vertical keystone correction is automatic. Horizontal keystone is manual, so if the projector sits off to one side you’ll need to adjust it yourself, or simply place it straight in front of the screen.

The spec sheet lists a 40–130 inch picture. Magcubic’s throw-distance chart puts an 80-inch image at about 1.4 m (4.6 ft) and 100 inches at about 1.8 m (5.9 ft), which makes it practical for small rooms. There’s also a 1/4-inch thread for mounting it on a standard tripod.

Smart Features and Sound

The HY310X runs Android 11 on an Allwinner H713 chip, with built-in apps, screen mirroring and Bluetooth 5.2. It can also play videos and open Office files such as PowerPoint and Excel from a USB drive, which is handy for quick presentations. Android 11 is an older version, so app support may not be as current as on newer models.

The single 5W speaker is fine for dialogue in a small room but won’t fill a living room. Since the projector has Bluetooth, pairing a Bluetooth speaker or soundbar is the easy upgrade for movie nights.

HY310X vs. HY350MAX

Model Price Brightness System Speaker Screen
HY310X (this one) $99.72 420 ANSI Android 11 5W 40–130″
HY350MAX $123.99 600 ANSI Android 14 15W 35–135″

For about $24 more, the HY350MAX adds a brighter picture, a newer Android version and a stronger speaker. If you’ll use it mainly in a living room, it’s worth the step up. The HY310X makes more sense for bedrooms, dorms and ceiling projection, where its smaller size and rotating stand matter more.

Listing Details Worth Knowing

We found several spots where Magcubic’s own listing contradicts itself:

  • Android version: the spec sheet and page title say Android 11, but one product image shows an “Android 14” badge.
  • Wireless: the spec text says Bluetooth 5.2; one image says “WiFi 6 + BT5.2” and another says “Wireless 5.4”. The written specs don’t state the Wi-Fi standard.
  • Screen size: the specs say 40–130 inches, while a product image shows sizes up to 150 inches.
  • Keystone: a bullet point says “Auto Keystone”, but the specs and images confirm only vertical keystone is automatic; horizontal is manual.
  • Brightness in the site menu: the store’s navigation menu lists the HY310X at 200 ANSI, while the product page says 420 ANSI.
  • Reviews: we didn’t find customer reviews on the product page.

Who It’s For

  • Bedroom and dorm movie watchers on a budget.
  • Ceiling projection, thanks to the 180° stand.
  • First-time projector buyers who want native 1080p for under $100.
  • Casual presenters who need USB playback of Office files.

Who It’s Not For

  • Bright living rooms: 420 ANSI isn’t enough with lights on.
  • Outdoor or off-grid use: there’s no battery.
  • Anyone who wants great built-in sound: it’s a single 5W speaker.
  • Buyers who want the latest Android: it runs Android 11.

The product page advertises a 30-day return policy and a one-year warranty. The full policy is stricter than the headline “30-Day No-Reason Return”:

  • For non-quality returns, you pay shipping both ways, and in some cases the item must be sent back to China.

No. It runs on DC power from the included adapter.

Can it project on the ceiling?

Magcubic HY310X Review: Bottom Line

The Magcubic HY310X offers something rare at $99.72: native 1080p in a compact projector with auto focus and a rotating stand that makes ceiling movie nights easy. It’s best in a dark bedroom or dorm, ideally with a Bluetooth speaker. Keep expectations realistic on brightness and sound, note that the listing’s specs don’t always agree with each other, and be aware that returns for change of mind are limited to unopened units. If you need more brightness and a newer Android, the HY350MAX is the better step up.
