Enjoy The Wood is a family-run woodworking brand founded in Ukraine in 2014 by husband-and-wife duo Igor and Maryna Fostenko. What started as a small idea shared over a family dinner has grown into a business known for handcrafted wooden puzzles, home decor, and its signature wooden world maps.
Igor's path to entrepreneurship was not an easy one. He grew up in poverty and lost both his mother and grandmother by the age of 11, which left him homeless for a period and, for a time, struggling with an addiction to glue. His life changed when a mentor named Mykola took him in and gave him the stability and support he needed to rebuild. Igor met Maryna when he was 16, and the two married at 21.
In 2014, after a suggestion at a family dinner, Igor and Maryna began selling their handmade wooden pieces on Etsy. Two years later, in 2016, they introduced what would become one of their most popular products: the wooden world map, a piece that blends fine craftsmanship with a love of travel and geography.
War and Rebuilding
When Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine began, Enjoy The Wood lost its production facility in Borodyanka and its office in Irpin, two towns that saw some of the heaviest fighting early in the war. The company estimates the loss at around $2 million in equipment and $300,000 in finished products.
Rather than stop operating, Igor and Maryna rebuilt the business in just one month, relocating production to Serednie, near Uzhhorod in western Ukraine. Throughout the war, the company has also supported the Ukrainian armed forces by helping fund body armor, helmets, and vehicles, and by organizing fundraising campaigns and delivering humanitarian aid to people affected by the conflict.
