HEIPI W28 Lite Review: Is a 3-in-1 Carbon Travel Tripod Worth $269?

Travel tripods usually force a trade-off: light enough to carry all day means wobbly at full height, and stable enough for long exposures means heavy. HEIPI, which built its name on Kickstarter and Indiegogo, tries to sidestep that with an unusual design. The HEIPI 3-in-1 Travel Tripod W28 Lite splits its center column into three pillars, one of which detaches as a tabletop tripod, and pairs it with T300 carbon fiber legs and a 45mm ball head. It’s the top item in HEIPI’s best-selling sort and costs $269 (regularly $319).

For this HEIPI W28 Lite review, we went through HEIPI’s full specification sheet, the bundle options, the store’s shipping, return and warranty terms, and compared the W28 Lite with the other tripods in HEIPI’s lineup. The goal is to show what the 3-in-1 design actually gives you and who it suits.

HEIPI W28 Lite Review: The 3-in-1 Design

The idea behind the W28 Lite is HEIPI’s patented three-column center column. Instead of a single center tube, the column is made of three pillars. HEIPI says this makes the column noticeably more stable when raised, so the extra height is actually usable rather than a last resort that introduces shake.

The “3-in-1” part comes from what the column can become. Remove the center module and you get:

  • A full-size tripod with 5-section carbon legs.
  • A tabletop tripod: the detachable aluminum sub tripod, 20 cm tall and rated for 3 kg.
  • A ball head that works on either.

The main tripod stays usable after the sub tripod is removed, so you can run two camera positions at once, for example a camera on the full tripod and a phone or action camera on the tabletop one. Note that only one head is included: HEIPI states a second tripod head is required for the dual setup, which is why it sells a bundle with its KF30 ball head.

Legs, Height and Low Angles

The legs are T300 carbon fiber with a 25 mm top section, which is a solid diameter for a 1.24 kg travel tripod. A one-hand release unlocks all the twist locks at once, which speeds up setup. The main tripod works from 8 cm up to 119 cm, and raising the center column takes it to 151 cm.

At 151 cm, the W28 Lite is on the shorter side for a full-size tripod: most adults will need to bend slightly to use the viewfinder at full extension. For low-angle work, you can reconfigure it quickly, use the sub tripod on its own, or invert the center column for ultra-low shots.

Other practical touches include built-in spikes for sand and gravel, a weight-hanging strap with a hook for adding stability in wind, and three 1/4-inch accessory mounts for magic arms, monitors or lights.

The Ball Head

The included head has a 45 mm ball, large for its 255 g weight, and an ultra-low profile. The panning base switches between smooth 360° rotation and 10° click-stops, which helps with panoramas. The Arca-compatible clamp uses twist-lock tightening and two spring-loaded safety pins to stop the plate sliding out. HEIPI recommends keeping equipment under 5 kg on the head for reliable locking, which covers most mirrorless and DSLR setups with standard lenses.

What Customers Say

The W28 Lite shows 7 ratings on HEIPI’s product page, averaging about 4.5 stars, but the written reviews weren’t displayed when we checked. That’s a small sample, so the specifications and HEIPI’s 2-year warranty are a better guide than the rating.

Who It’s For

  • Travel photographers who want a carbon tripod that folds to 46 cm and weighs 1.24 kg.
  • Content creators who want to run a camera and a phone or second camera at the same time.
  • Anyone who uses the center column often and wants it to stay steady.
  • Landscape and panorama shooters who like click-stop panning and low-angle options.

Who It’s Not For

  • Tall photographers who want eye-level height without bending: the maximum is 151 cm.
  • Users of heavy telephoto lenses beyond the ball head’s 5 kg recommendation.
  • Buyers who want lots of reviews before purchasing.
  • Anyone who needs the dual setup out of the box without paying for a second head.

HEIPI W28 Lite Review: Shipping, Returns and Warranty

The W28 Lite is $269 on the HEIPI official store, and it was in stock when we checked. Shipping costs are calculated at checkout. HEIPI’s shipping policy lists 2–3 business days of handling and 7–12 business days for standard delivery, from local warehouses in the US and EU when items are in stock, or from China otherwise, with taxes and customs handled by HEIPI. The site banner promises “US & EU delivery within 12 business days or less”, which is slightly more optimistic than handling plus standard delivery added together.

The tripod comes with a 2-year warranty. Returns must be unused, in their original packaging and with proof of purchase, you pay the return shipping, and you need to email HEIPI for approval before sending anything back. The refund policy we read doesn’t state a return window in days, so confirm the time limit with HEIPI support before buying if that matters to you.

HEIPI W28 Lite Review: Bottom Line

The HEIPI W28 Lite is one of the more inventive travel tripods around. Its three-pillar center column makes raised height more usable, the detachable sub tripod adds a tabletop option you’d otherwise carry separately, and the carbon legs, 45 mm ball head and 1.24 kg weight make it easy to take anywhere. The 151 cm maximum height, the need for a second head for the dual setup, and the small number of reviews are worth weighing. But at $269 with a 2-year warranty, it’s a strong pick for travel photographers and creators who want more flexibility from one tripod.

That wraps up our HEIPI W28 Lite review. Check current bundles and prices on the official HEIPI store.
